Need some input please. For those running v8's in the 49-52 Chevy cars, where are you running the battery? Still under the hood or in the trunk? Any pics would be great. I have a mustang gas tank in the trunk and was not crazy about mounting the battery back there, but may need to. Thanks to all for the help.
A good alternative would be under the passenger floor with an access door. Mount a support on the inside of the passenger-side frame rail.

I’m mocking my battery up to be in the trunk of my 49 Chevy in back of the spare tire wheel well. I’m not sure how much room you have with the mustang gas tank. Mine is in the RH wheel well side of the trunk behind the upholstery in my 50. You can get some pretty powerful batteries in small packages now days that can be oriented any way you want but they can be expensive. Got an Odyssey in my 32 and it is tiny.
Seen many bugs catch on fire from the rear seat springs touching the battery terminals... I would go with your first choice and be on the safe side but it's my just .02 cents....
Mine is in the stock location but I had to bet a narrower then normal battery to clear the nailhead exhaust manifold.
been there and had that happen in high school , not fun going down the highway with horsehair on fire ! thang goodness it was a vert as it made it easy to pull out . I have a poncho version . mines either in the old spare tire area or in the corner behind the right rear wheel were the jack goes , mines going it a sealed battery box http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g1231/overview/ that vents outside and is anchored per Nhra specs .
