Hell, I remember some of the guys who raced at 605 Speedway drove their racecars to the track!

In the early '60's a regional meet drew a big entry and crowd to Orange. On the entry road while waiting to get in lake pipes and headers got uncorked and "sonic drags" started.

After the Aug '59 meet I saw a rail being flat towed away on the end of a rope, Rt 202 South IIRC, wished I had been able to take a picture. Not a high buck operation for sure but does being that memorable make it famous?

  5. How about the big rear-window stickers Champion Spark Plug used to p*** out for flat towing -- "Race Car in Tow"? I thought those were the coolest. It meant there goes a real race car!

  6. Pretty awesome photo. Can you tell more about it?

    -------------
I used to get a kick out of some of
the guys flat-towing to and from the
local dragstrip when on the back of
their race car in big letters in white
shoe polish it would say "CAR IN
    TOE
" I was never quite sure if they
were trying to be funny, or it they
really just couldn't spell and didn't
    know the difference between words
    'TOE" and "TOW"!!!:eek::D

That old ramp truck would be so cool to have and use.... all a guy needs is a extra $30K to poor into it.

Loading the Mormon Metero III circa 1949.

The Diamond T pickup right behind the race car is from the Wilkinson Salt Lake City dealership.

That truck is sitting in the Mercedes Benz museum. It is very beautiful, but its also not the original. The original was s****ped. Oh, and speaking of race cars, one of the W196's set an auction record a couple months ago.
