I have a gm vega steering box and I'm looking for a flat pitman arm for it. It has 1" shaft on the box and needs the tapered end on the other side. I believe it is 7 degree taper.
If I remember correctly you can put the stock arm in a press and make it straight. Maybe some others will chime in. .bjb
Southern Rods has them. HRP http://www.southernrods.com/ch***is-and-suspension/pitman-arms/pitman-arm-plain.html
I think MBM/Pirate Jack may offer one also for less money. We're a dealer for them i'll dig through and see if I can find it...ken...
i've never seen two different size splines on Vega steering boxes or are you talking about a Mustang box?
It is a vega box if you look in p&j catalog at there arms it says 1 1/8" and shows you were to measure and that is what I did. I'm starting to think that one only fits p&j boxes.
you are looking at their instructions on measuring a Mustang steering box what box do you really have? you better post some pictures
That pitman arm can be modified; Judicious use of heat, PATIENCE, and a press. Allow it to cool slowly. I packed mine in sand, to allow slower cooling. 4TTRUK
FWIW, steering box rebuilders have barrels full of used arms. In LA, they get about 25 bucks for one. Is there a rebuilder near you? You'd be surprised how much stuff crosses over when you go through the barrels.
