I'm still several months away from finishing a 1931 Model A Pickup. All built from parts. The serial # on the frame is not in any way readable.
I applied for a vin# from the Ga DMV. They sent back a letter from their Salvage division wanting documentation on just about every part for issuance of a title.

Has anyone built a hot rod in Ga and had to supply documentation on parts and the serial numbers of the cars the parts came off of. Since majority of parts are 60 to 80 years old, this is not possible.

Any suggestions from someone in Georgia, thanks, Mel

Did you use the form T-22B and T-128? I thought with these you just needed a Cop to verify that there was no vin and a notarized statement from you? They do get mailed to the salvage dept.

  4. Do the acid trick to raise that VIN and save yourself some hassle.

Since this clearly isn't a stolen car type situation...what the DMV system is designed to prevent...what do you have on the frame?? Is the # just shallow and unreadable, or is that area a hopeless mass of pits??
There are...maybe lying around my house, actually...excellent repro stamps that can be used to add some definition. This would be good to turn shallow stuff into something you can use, but of course would look very suspicious if pounded into an area with deep damage. Then tell'em you found the number...you had not realized it was so far back on an A.

    No vin number is visible.

Ref: T128 and T22B. Sent these two items in to DMV with cops signature verifying no vin #.
DMV asked for pictures, so I sent them progress photos, telling them the truck was being restored. They sent back letter saying to submit T129 ( labor and Parts Certification). A statement of origin of the frame. Check for $168, Plus bills of sale listing each part used and indicate if new or used parts. If used list the serial number of the vehicle it was taken from.

    These people are nuts !

I think you opened a can o. Too late now but I think those forms would have worked if the pic was of a complete truck, just missing a vin. Now they look at it as an assembled vehicle. If you had sent a pic of a complete truck all you would need is a bill of sale. Not much help I know. Could all the parts have come at the same time ? One bill of sale for everything including the body and frame?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the vin# for model "a"s on the engine?

Go to a farm auction. Buy the scrap pile. Get a reciept. Tell the DMV all the parts were in the pile! I am not saying you car is scrap, just a way to get a reciept for a bunch of misc. parts.

Attach a vin plate. They are available on eBay , then get a friend to sell you the car with a bill of sale with the vin clearly on it. Since there is no title needed in GA they will look it up and see that it has not been registered in GA before. They will send the Sheriff out to look at your shine new vin plate and they will see the numbers match. They will then issue a tag

Do not tell that you built the car or anything like that. You bought it, here is the bill of sale and here is the vin number. That is all they need. Mine did not even have a vin number because the frame was home built so the number on mine was made up from the year of the car, my daughters birth date and my anniversary.

Thanks for the replys. I think I'll give it some time and start the process over after truck is assembled. I'll work on getting another bill of sale and a vin #.
