O.K. Here's my first question: I'm mounting a Speedway round aluminum tank on the back of my T, how about some input on rubber mounts for this set up. Rubber between the straps and the tank, or between the mounts (straps) & the frame?

No sure about rubber mounts, bu i suspect you'll then need to separately ground your fuel sending unit-***uming you use one.

Nope, not running one. Never had one on any of my bikes, only ran outta gas a couple of times! With this build, think if it isn't needed to run & stop it aint needed!

i'd probably just use rubber between the mount and the frame, and call it good.

I'd still ground the tank. There aren't many things I like about gasoline.

I've had mine mounted using only the straps. I haven't had a worry or trouble. If it helps you sleep at night, put some straps in there. It's all about you. I use a stick to check level and know what my mileage is. I've never even come close to running out of gas and drive every day.

I know that larger trucks run rubber between the straps and the tank to stop the tank from spinning and to help with vibration which can crack welds.Should work with the size your running too.

I'm thinking of putting rubber between the straps & frame, with some star washers to ground the whole mess out! On one of my first bike projects, it would tear tanks up, the tank was mounted hard to the frame. Every one after that had some rubber in the mounts, I just wanted some input on this set-up, thanks!

I found some pliable rubber of the appropriate thickness (maybe an old inner tube), cut strips & cemented them to the inside of the mounting rings....worked great...good thing to do.

On my coupe I made like a cradle for a aluminum rectangular tank to sit in. I plan on using strips of Grace Ice & Water Shield for electrolis insulation between the aluminum and steel.

Rubber also helps keep the steel strap from digging into the softer aluminum. Had one the rubber came out of, in a short time the strap rubbed a hole in the tank. Now that's on a truck running 500-600 miles a day, on every kind of road, and subject to diesel vibrations. On a car your mileage will vary.....

Looking at some NOS inner-tubes Ive got laying around, I think Ill glue them inside the straps, trim off the excess, & use some conveyor belt between the straps & frame. Seems like the best thing to do......
