Beyond the side motor mounts, the engine in the article is painted orange......it should have been red, as that is the color of '55 engines. Probably will fool most, though.

A few months ago I started a thread very much like this one. It got deleted by Ryan with a PM saying "Bad Idea" so with a user name like judgekiller, no intro, and a "Bad Idea" for your first thread don't be surprised when yours suffers the same fate!

    '55 265s were orange

    '56 265s were red

'57 265s were chartreuse (yellow) for the first few months of production, and then were orange like the '57 283s.

This site would lose a bunch of members if rule #2 was enforced here... Just my $.02. CTJ

Who sits around reading intros? Is this an internet dating site?
I have that other street rod issue at home, I will try and get the month/year off it when I get home later. Engine is on the cover on a chassis.

Let's see... you can have an alternator on your flathead, but only if it looks like a generator? You can have HEI too, but only if it looks like magneto? You can have IFS, but only if it's hidden by fenders? You can have a T-5 on your banger, but don't tell anyone. But you can't make a 350 look like a 283 with getting a surprise visit from the Spanish Inquisition? I'd LOVE to know how to make a LS3 look like a 327. Seriously. Gary

Jeez, I think the drama light is flickering

Are you tryin to make it HAMB purist anal correct, or just look like an old school style motor? I think you can do some simple things to make a new motor look "old", but you will always have the guy that realizes he's been tricked and has to prove to you his superior knowledge. I call those folks "assholes". They're everywhere, so watch out. Have fun with the motor.

I cant remember if I done a introduction and I sure dont read them so I dont know what the big deal is,a completely filled out profile with the projects they are working on would be alot better for those who just have to know.

As long as we're talking disguises and such, anyone remember a thread about disguising a basically aftermarket engine as a 327 (or maybe 283) and dropping it in an early Corvette a few years ago. They went as far as grinding the casting marks into the ends of the aluminum heads.

I'd sure like to see it again, but I've never been able to find it. Maybe it got deleted too.

And will he thank us all for helping him out?
Other guys get flamed for not making a proper intro and talking about parts newer than 1965. Yet judgekiller asked questions about late model GM engines on his first post without an intro. Two wrongs don't make a right.
And all you old dudes who forgot an intro it's never too late.
Now I'm going out to the garage to make the 305 in my 55 Chevy look like the six it came with.

  29. Funny, the OP never stated he wanted to do this / asked how to do it / said he was looking to fool everyone. He simply asked for a magazine reference. Too bad it took 37 replies and one person to finally realize this...

  30. What was the question?
