i have a gm 1 wire alternator on my flathead. and according to jack sweeden's book, i ran a wire from the alternator directly to the battery. do i have to add a volt meter also? (sweeden page 41) it doesn't look like that is in the same circuit.
    thanks

you can add a volt meter on any curcuit. One that is switched would be best

  4. A simple voltmeter somewhere, even hidden, will tell you everything.
Basically, If your motor is at 1000rpm, your voltmeter should show around 14.0-14.2 Volts = charging (***uming your battery is OK).
I got a cheap voltmeter from Evilbay for a couple of bucks, put it in a little box with a switch and hid it under the hood.

Get a voltmeter at HARBIE FREIGHT FOR $7. This is a 2" unit, fully illuminated and will fit in your car.

I got one at harbor freight -never mounted it in a car,but i use it at the battery to check voltage. I've used it many times with no problems, this includes throwing it back in the toolbox & just all around treating it bad.If you actually mount one it should last forever.
