David could you explain the problems that you had with the buck. I need to make some fender bucks & wood work is not my best atrabute. Thinking about 1/4 inch in round stock or 1/8 x 1/2 flat stock at least it would be lighter the wood.
Danny, the problem I had was not because of my woodworking ability, it was my inability to see how I could make the main part of the wing and the part of the wing that sits on the chassis in the correct position. I made a meal of something that should have been straightforward, I had a mental block and just could not work it out. Got there eventually. It was difficult because all the suspension is in the way, the wings are quite complex in that area and I wanted it all to fit properly when done and I was stressed. It nearly kicked my butt - to quote you people from across the pond. David
We do! here we call it a wheel or wheeling machine. I have two and a little harbor freight style machine. here is my other one its behind me in the photo. David
Thanks Rich, I do like my machines I have quite a few old machines including Edwards folder and guillotine (shear). Thanks for you comments everyone. David
Looks great David! I sure hope you make a video on using some machines like English Wheels someday. Given how informative your first one was I would imagine it would be full of cool information.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have done some work on another DVD. I show how machines and hand work are use to produce parts efficiently. Just got to find time to finish it. David
The back section was wheeled next these were checked on the buck the flanges were marked and thrown and then shrunk to match the buck and the two sections welded together... Everything was double checked on the car as I went because this was the first set of wings made on the bucks and its easy at this stage to spot and correct any problems. It all fitted as it should... David
David, having done a bit of aluminum torch welding many years back I am quite impressed with your skills. It's a real art that you need to practice regularly to have any success with.
I only just got a notification that there was an update and had to go back a page to catch up! Don't know why this forum takes so long? Thanks for showing the continued progress.
Thanks guys for the replies, I get a bit bored if no-one says hi!. It feels a bit like a one sided conversation. I am quite happy to answer questions or show more detail on anything. Just ask. David
Thanks for posting all this, it's really educational. I've saw your DVD posted before but am a great procrastinator, this thread made me order your DVD today, so looking forward to watching it and learning more!
I've been watching, these last years. Your build is absolutely fascinating! Thanks for showing and sharing your art and talent.
It's good to know you enjoy the thread. I hope you like the DVD when you get it. Thanks for taking he time to comment. I have several other build threads on here that you may like. David
Made the front wings in the same number of sections as the originals. all the parts were welded together using oxy acetylene welding. Wings and Bucks... David
I'm very interested, and in awe. I'm almost afraid to ask questions....I want to hide my stupidity as much as possible....!
