the idiot being me! im having a hell of a time gas welding for some reason. with my 00 tip, i have no problem getting the flame set to where i want it. its a victor tip. i bought a non-victor 4 tip, so i could do some bigger stuff, but i cant get it set good. its a very rough flame, know what i mean? almost like too much oxy, but if i turn it down, its too rich. this tip is brand new, ive had it for a few months now, and have had no good results. im still new at this, so could it be a wrong reg setting? maybe im not looking for the right flame?? maybe the pictures will show something, they didnt turn out good though. the first will be with my 4 tip. trey
Is this non-Victor tip designed to be compatible with the Victor equipment? Are the two rubber "o" rings on the tip that keep the g***es seperated in good condition? Do you have enough flow and pressure while you're welding for the bigger tip? (But don't go anywhere near 15# on the acetylene or it can blow up in the hose.) Did you get carbon in the tip? I use a tip cleaner a lot, and every time I start just for general principles and to kill the spiders or whatever in the tip..
the tip is designed for victor. same thing as my victor tip. o rings are good. im running about 8-10 psi, around there. ive cleaned the tip, few times today alone. no luck. maybe i got a dud somehow? i dunno. thanks for the tips DrJ
I used to do a lot of gas welding, I think you need to try lower pressures. What I remember is about 4 to 5 lbs. on both g***es, even up to a # 2 or 3 tip. Bigger than this you may need to go up 1 or 2 lbs. I'm in the process of getting my 40 year old torches and stick welder in shape, my son and I are gonna build an "old tool" T-bucket this winter. No mig, just the same stuff I used when I was 16. Good luck.
i have to dwell for a really long time, if i can even get it hot enough to molten. seems like the flame is too rough to get a good concentration of heat i guess. trey
Hey, If your runnin 8-10 lbs @ the regulator with that #4 tip and havin to wait for the puddle ta form your trouble may not be the torch, but the regulator. The diaphram may be walkin off the job. How thick is the material your'e weldin?
its 1/4", and according to the victor chart, it should be able to do it. maybe im at the upper limits of the tip, and should try something else? my regs are old, could be the problem trey
