I'm building a '52 and I'm trying to settle on the gauges I will use. I really like the original-style gauges and would like to find an updated 12V version of them and could use some advice. I think I either need to just buy a new set - like Classic Instruments - or I need to figure out how to replace/update the components in my gauges. My new set up: 1990 350, TBI 700R4 setup for VSS Tanks Inc sending unit - 0-30 OHMS Painless wiring for the TBI EZ Wiring 18 kit So... what to do? I would like to get rebuilt or newly built original style. Here's what I'm thinking... help me out... Speedo: I could use the original-style mechanical and get an adapter for the trans that runs both that and the VSS sensor for the computer. I think, anyhow, this would work? Gas: I think a rebuilt 12V unit is still 0-30 OHMS, so I think I'm ok there? Oil: I am pretty sure the new-old style are 0-60 PSI and mechanical and will work. Temp: This I know I can find in the style, but with the 212 temp range. Volt: I don't want amps. I do want volts. But I'm not having luck finding this in volts. Am I just missing it somewhere obvious? Advice?
New Vintage gauges has what you need and they almost look like the original's. I believe you'll need to change your sending unit to match their gauge. New Vintage USA WOODWARD SERIES http://www.newvintageusa.com/images/37205-02.jpg
Rick, I had this idea the other day of just mounting gauges under the dash and getting a tck for the old gauge hole. So imagine my joy to see your post on how to do that!
Monkey boy, IMO the guages from classic instraments are top notch for my use ( driving the shit out of my truck, not checking the paint for dust or fly legs). I took a shot of my speedo for ya. It looks gold but this phone sux. I am running a 89 tbi 350 in my 53 GMC and there guage pack worked perfict!!! And good customer support. Good luck Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
