I was wondering if there were any differences between a 1963 engine bay, and a 64 engine bay?? looking to put a 472 in the 63, and heard that it would fit a 64..

Exhaust can be a real pain and the booster gets in the way! doin it in a 65 is a piece of pie. 64 with x frame and it becomes a challenge! but anything is possible

there is a company out in Alb,NM that makes parts for the swap, they have done a 472 in a 64, but he wasnt sure if a 63 would work. I dont think the 63 and 64 egine bays would be different. i guess i will just have to put the motor back together ant test fit it into the car.. arent they pretty much Identical cars?

63-64......They are the same. Only a couple exterior and interior trim differences.

Didn't the early 63s still use the Hydromatic with reverse all the way down? I know the 63 390 looks very similar to the 64 429 but was that a later engine too? I think some of the major fans of that series could help on that score.

Hey 'cadiman, I cut up a late 63 decades ago for the engine and trans. I was pleased to find it had the Turbo-Hydro (400). I was curious as to when they made the switch. I know 64 was the 1st 429/400trans and I thought that's what we had, but not so. Also if I remember the 64 400 wouldn't bolt up to the 63? Too many cobwebs in my head and my Hollander's 41 miles away.

from what i know, which is very little.
all 63 had the hydra matic 4 speeds
    64 they went to the 429 with a th400
the 63 will not bolt up to anything with out the use of an adapter.

My recollections go as such: 63 used the old dual coupling hydramatic as did some of the 64 models. The other 64 models had the single range TH400. 64 was first year of 429 and it had the common BOP bell pattern. 63 had a Cadillac bell pattern which was used from 55 to 63.

  13. Google caillac 500 motors. Its 500 cadillac .com or something along those lines. It should be either the first or second one down. Lots of parts and info on swaps.
