I wired my '39 Ford two door sedan last year and got it running. I used a Gearhead wiring kit. Everything worked except my turn signal indicators on the dash. I pulled the engine last winter and also did a lot of bodywork. I'm getting ready to get it running again and I have no turn signals or brake lights. Headlights & tail lights work. I haven't messed with any of these circuits. I have power to and through the turn signal switch from the brake light switch but no lights. The emergency flashers work and all the fuses are good. I ground off a place where the tail light grounds were to make sure I was getting a good ground there. I even ran a ground wire from the left tail light to the frame. I'm really confused.
I would check the connections at the turn signal switch as it is the logic circuit for turn signals and brake lights when utilizing the same bulb element. Hazard flashers sometimes go around the turn signal switch. If the flashers work properly, then the problem would have to be in the turn switch or wiring. what column or turn signal switch are you using?
Thanks sillys1, and SMOG GUY, the hazard flasher is a gray wire that is hot all the time. Yes, it is in the turn signal switch.
Very common for emerg flasher-style turn signals to not work. At my shop I'd be wigglin' the emerg. controls while a helper told me if brake lights or t/s started to work. Is there a seperate fuse for brake lights?
Hey SMOG GUY, and yes, there is s seperate fuse for the brake lights. This sounds promising. Thanks, Rod
Ya mean body work like filler and new paint. Those things tend to degrade grounds as your are screwing into paint, not metal. Run a jumper ground wire to a known good ground on the ch***is and see if the lights respond. If they do then do what is necessary to attain a proper and reliable ground.
