So I'm wanting to take on a new project. I'd like to build a 60s style drag truck. I found a nice, rust free 35 ford cab and bed for 800 bucks. I have a 327 that I'd like to build for it. Any advice on whether or not the price is good or bad, any advice on building the truck? Anything would be helpful!

Here's a shot of the direction I'd kindve like to go in.

I really just wanted some opinions on the price. The truck is from Kansas and around here it's nearly impossible to find anything without rust so it's kindve hard to p*** up. I'm wanting to build this on a fairly tight budget, what would be a good ch***is to use? I know alot of people use the s10. I know that's a cheap, easy way to go, but I don't know if it would be best for this. Any tips on getting the most out of the 327?

  6. you almost lost me at S-10 ch***is...do you want to build a rat rod? don't use a S-10 unless you want to build a RR

use a ch***is like you showed in that picture. you got that from eBay , right?

Price is good. What are you waiting for ? Buy it now !! S10 frame is not good to use. This is a traditional hot rodding site. So build traditional style. Useing or building a perimeter type frame. For example 32 - 35 ford frame or rectangler steel tubing with ford I beam axel with transverse spring.

Just my two cents but when I hear the words 1960s Drag Truck...this is what I am thinking. Not the low slung street rod/rat rod version...no offense, I like them but not what I think of as a 60's Drag Truck...Good buy though either way!

When you said '60s drag truck, I first thought of the gas cl***es; but a truck like your picture would have been an altered and I personally don't remember any pick up style altereds.

Since there are already too many "Rudy" type bobber trucks around, why not build it on a '35-'40 frame with full fenders and a nose up at***ude similar to the Willys drag trucks of the '60s. Then later if wanted a change, you could switch to a dropped axle and have a real hot rod truck. IMHO

That's a fair price. Most cabs range from 400-800 and the beds range from 175-600.

for the love of god, if you're going to run an s-10 ch***is put fenders on it to hide all that mess. personally I'm in the camp that thinks ANY fat fendered vehicle (and this counts) needs to retain the fenders. taking them off or not running them doesn't make it traditional IMO it just pushes it closer to that rat styling.

aside from that, i think that price sounds fair for a rust free cab/bed

BTW the pics looks fairly "ratty" to me, not so much 60's drag truck.

It's a good price. You're a long way away from making it look like something that could be p***ed off as a 60's style drag truck though.
