I have a 65 401 Nailhead that I am considering making into a blower motor. My question is......do any companies still sell a blower crank pulley/balancer for the Nailhead ? If not,.....what did you do? Or how did you solve this issue? I talked to the guys at Supercharger USA and they said they solve this problem by taking the customers original damper and cnc it out,....add one or two key way's,....then match their crank pulley to it. Is that a reliable alternative to pulleys that are no longer made? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks....
There are a few old drives floating around out there, but yea, the route @ S USA is the way to go.... For Drive hubs, its best to have a double key, too much load for only 1, and also best if a solid hub. You can still buy the blower hubs though, just get a steel HB and adapt it....
It sounds like a viable option for any motor as long as it lines up with the other pulleys. I think this can be done by any machine shop, not necessarily CNC. This may save you some $$$ Regards
Some experienced blower guys have convinced me a conventional rubber ring front damper is useless on a blower. They say the weight and forces to drive the blower overwhelm whatever the stock balancer is trying to do. Bottom line, forget about the stocker and just make your front hub/drive system the simplest and strongest you can figure. jack vines
