...just picked up a complete rebuilt '49-'54 front suspension cradle, that got swapped out for a straight axle conversion...I plan on keeping the spindles, hubs, and brakes for a dropped tube axle I have, any of the other parts worth saving?
that whole frontend is worth keeping!!! Lot's of guys are using those in older cars! Work great, it's the same frontend in some of the 50s-60s vette's!!
I'm thinking that some guys like to use them to upgrade their earlier knee action front ends too plus they fit on the 47/54 Chevy pickups pretty well but aren't used much anymore. For me the cost of completely rebuilding one and getting the steering to work in another ch***is might be right up there with one of the coil spring MII units though.
I would think a rebuilt front end, that is obviously rebuilt, would sell - if I still had mine I'd be interested and I'd have swapped back the brake conversion for it.
back in my ebay days I parted out a 53 and a 51. I sold every part of the front ends separately one piece at a time, with the exception of the spindles, which I sold as pairs. I even sold the used bearings. I got close to $300.00 out of each front end. I found there is not one usable part from these cars that will not sell. I had around $3,000.00 in sales from each car. it is a lot of work... probably had 200 auctions to get rid of it all.
I've pulled about 20. Sold one, gave one away, the rest went to s****. If there is a demand, I don't know where. The suspension is decent, swappable.
the brakes and uprights and bearings are very sellable. i have even sold some of the other parts. lower a arm to people that want to step them to lower car. brakes are better on the 53 and 54. the uprights on 53 and 54 will lower 52 and earlier years. just have to know how to market them to sell.
