I am going to build another replica of the famous Studebaker Indy Racers as to be seen in the following pictures. Pictures were taken at the Nürburgring 4 weeks ago. I bought a basketcase 31 President straight 8 that i will pick up next thursday in Wales UK. I collected most informations about those cars over the last years the only thing i couldnt find out yet is: Where is the grill shell taken off? Is it a stock item or a custom built shell? Any info appreciated. Mario
I believe it started out as a stock grill with several modifications but our Vintage Indy Car gurus will probably come up with exactly what it used when they spot the thread. OBTW, have you checked this Google link? https://www.google.com/search?q=193...WC6q6igKN8YCoDQ&ved=0CC4QsAQ&biw=1708&bih=725 It appears that that car may be one of the 1931 cars. Jackpot! We have a winner. That link lead to this link: http://www.studegarage.com/indycar1.htm Grill= http://www.studegarage.com/indycar/grille.htm I've had other photos of that car and the others like it in my "Indy car inspiration" folder for some time. Mine isn't going to be a replica of any of them but an attempt to build what appears like it was an Indy two seater from the late 20's early 30's or a grand Prix car from the same era with US markings.
A guy in the Studebaker Drivers Club is doing the exact same thing. He built the grill from a 1930 or 1931 grille shell. His grille is definitely custom made. Check out the club forum and look for Gary. I'm sure he'll share his 'secrets'. I believe he has the rolling ch***is almost complete (I could be wrong).
A Studebaker Driver's Club member has been working on an Indy car replica for a while.
