Yes, you need safety equipment to race. If you think that racing isn't serious and you can't get hurt racing a tiny-engined vehicle, just ask the 2 minibikers that wiped out at our June practice race. They both said that they wished they had been wearing leather. :)

The safety rules are pretty simple, and are required and enforced by the track.
    You must have:
An abrasion-resistant jacket (leather, denim, etc)
Pants of durable material (leather, denim, etc)
    Full-finger gloves
    Closed-toe shoes
A full-face helmet with a Snell rating of 2005 or 2010. If you don't have one, the track rents them for $5/day. I see them on ebay for as little as $20, but usually $50-120 if you want your own to personalize.
A neck brace. The track rents them for $5/day. I bought one from Summit for about $20

Tech inspection will consist of checking you for the above stuff, and you will have to demonstrate that your vehicle has working brakes and steering. The rest of the tech is up to YOU to make sure YOUR vehicle is safe.

    :D

Crash #1 from the June race

I seriously wish this was closer...If you have never experienced karting (or minibikes) you're missing out, it's about as much mechanical fun as you can have per cubic dollar....as long as you stay away from the very new and the very old performance stuff...Me and my 9 year old son have about 20 to 30 year old karts with $130 drive trains on them, a $100 on sale HF engine and a $30 eBay clutch set up, they're fast enough to drift on asphalt, and reliable enough to spend a whole day racing and banging with the only maintenance being adding gasoline.

    Good luck with your event

Yeah, it's fun... and I have the old performance stuff :) (1960-1 Simplex Challenger Mark II with a single (for now) West Bend 580.

The best thing is that we can race all day at 10 minute heats (rather than 15 second runs at the drag strip) and if something breaks, I don't have to worry about calling a tow truck or getting a trailer

  5. Can you tell us if we are using the whole track for bikes or half ?
That's a long straight away we are gonna get some speed there.
What dud you USE in the june

Full track. It seemed to work pretty well in June, but we never got to try other configurations because of the rain. Some of the turns are pretty tight, so you may build some speed in the straights, but you'll have to slow down for the turns.

If it becomes a problem in the morning practice sessions, we can always trim the track

We have nothing planned. There's really not much in Norway. I'll check to see if there's anything happening in Morris. I'm sure there will be something in Chicago!

  14. I will be bringing this project with me to the race its a Montgomery ward it has a brand new Honda motor never run and some extra parts asking 350. 1377577455534.jpg

A Lambretta is a scooter, not a minibike... and it has a transmission, so no. Sorry...and I love Lambrettas.

I like hearing "tranny" and "Zenor" in the same sentence. It reminds me of that time when he... oh, maybe I shouldn't tell that one.

    This sounds like a blast.

Anyone know what the lead cart with the built in "ball warmer" is?
