Hi everyone, I am considering fender skirts for my '41 Merc convert. Will the teardrop skirts for a '40 Ford work? Should I just stick with the box skirts made for '41-'48 Fords? I notice that the '41 Ford skirts are 39 1/2" long at the bottom, the '42-'48 skirts are somewhat shorter.
Any discussion or advice will be appreciated. Thanks, *******.

The wheel opening in Ford fenders are larger(top to bottom) than the Mercury,,therefore the top mounting on the Ford skirts will not work on a Mercury

Sorry but the wheel opening is the same for both cars, 1941 to 1948. Same fenders used with different trim holes drilled. I used to make both the 1941 skirt and the 1942 -48. The 41 is longer by about 6". For the best appearance don't use the 1940 style (teardrop) on the boxey 41 - 48 fender. I also made the fenders in fibergl*** as part of my Fairlane Co. offering, but no longer available.

Anybody else? I like the look of the tearedrop skirts but don't know if they will cover the wheel opening...*******.

I dont care what you say,,The MERCURY fender opening over the tires ARE smaller than the Ford...so the clamp that holds the skirts to the fender at the TOP ..WILL NOT WORK ON A MERCURY FENDER..

Here's a comparison of 41 Merc (black car) and 47 Ford (purpleish car).
They appear to me to be the same.

The 1940 Merc has a smaller wheel opening.

Don't let your ego get in the way of learning more about Fords. The bodies and rear fenders are the same from 1941 to 48 Ford and Merc. I have been selling NOS Ford parts for 55 years and might just know something about them.

It's true I may be young but I'm a spec junkie. The 41-48 Mercs from the firewall back is the same metal as the 41-48 fords. From the firewall forwards the merc is 4" longer then the ford and also has a 4" longer wheel base at 118". Isn't this correct FASI?? Next time I see a 41 ford I'll measure the fender opening compared to my 41 merc 19a-67 model!!!!

The original question was "teardrop skirts or box skirts"? I've had both on my 41' Ford convert. and I like the box skirts better. The teardrop skirts go with a teardrop shaped fender. Just my opinion.
