Hi, I am currently turning my 1948 Austin Dorset into a 1960's gasser. I am modelling my engine on Jr Thompson's small block engine. I have attached a picture of both. I also got the rocket covers without the knock outs, which means I got nowhere to put in the oil. I managed to get a set of original Moon filters for it, however I have now started to try and find a set of water/oil fillers. I would love to find a pair that they used to have back in the 60s. I have seen this crazy one in the Mickey Thompson 1966 handbook, which looks absolutely mint. There was also a picture of it on a hemi engine in the handbook, which I've also attached. The other black and white picture has got a hemi engine where the oil filler has got these lovely little srewtops. I have seen a place where I could buy these new but without the nice shape http://www.hothemiheads.com/valve_covers/water_oil_fillers.html If anyone would happen to have any of the older ones lying about, or know of anyone please do let me know. If you know of any other ones of era please send a pic through. I'd appreciate any help. Cheers, Matt
Hi there, I thought this was the appropriate place for this as I am looking for information as well. But yes I am happy to move this, however I am not sure how to move this ad?
Thanks for that, but I am after a set of originals to keep in line with the spirit of the car. I think it's a tat past my skill level as well...
Just a quick note, I just realised what you meant. I was thinking of the MT fillers and you were on about the other ones.
I think what Jeff means is just draw them! A CAD is lined out, converted to a DXF; then a CNC machine just spits them out. A bead-blast may be in order to shake off that 'billet look'.
Put a filler on where the fuel pump was supposed to be, take a block off late and seld a street elbo to it and the use a rubber expando plug, like the one in the secong hemi picture. That will keep it in the spirit of the car. Race cars were seldom bought from a catalog.
I get what you mean, I'll do that. Cheers Tlowe: I've got a set of original Moon breathers already, as in the second picture. Nice stuff though, good luck!
