Hey everyone, I am having certain parts issues with the new project toy, a 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe coupe. Currently running a sbc, 350 turbo and a 10 bolt diff. 1. What has everyone done to the dash gauges to get them to work on a 12v system? 2. What has everyone done to lower the front end? I can't locate lowering springs. 3. Any steering box swaps out there? Mine is a little sloppy! Thanks in advance for the advice,
Ford Aerostar springs will lower the front end a few inches, if you want a little more move the spring pocket from the top of the control arm to the bottom. Have you tried to adjust the steering box to take up some of the slop?
The only gauge that needs 6v is the fuel gauge, the ammeter will work on 12v and the oil and temp are mechanical. You can buy a voltage reducer online from places like Speedway or Mac's.
Change the light bulbs in the dash and swap the wires on the Ammeter terminals. The gas gauge works on a resistance coil and should be voltage neutral, but you might need to swap the wires back there also.
Yep pretty much what everyone else said! Theres no super easy steering gear box swap but you can change to a Cavalier rack and pinion. Why do you need to swap? If its for clearance you can offset the engine like mine is. If its sloppy you can rebuild or adjust it. Mine needs adjusted or rebuilt now. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
