hi guys, i was wondering if there is a sway bar i can install on my 65 ford f250 on the Twin I Beam suspension? and what bar would work on the rear? thanks in advance, just looking to make this truck a "little bit nicer", haha
73 to 79 sway bars will work but you will need the 73-9 radius arms so the time to do the swap is when you do a disc brake conversion with the complete 73-9 suspension that will bolt on,I have all the parts to do it on my 66 f250 when I wear out the new front brakes that are on it. I found a front and rear sway bars off a 76 F250 camper special but I think the rear will need a little tweeking to make work.
As junkyardjeff said, the swap bar off any 65-79 truck with a twin I-beam will do. Some trucks had a factory bar that bolted to the frame ahead of the axles and attached to the beams where the radius arm bolts go through the beams with end links and rubber bushings. Fairly common on the 73-79 camper specials. Other trucks had a factory bar that bolted directly to the radius arms on either side. I've seen these on the 67-72 style trucks, again usually a camper special deal. This style bar may interfere with headers. If you can't find a factory style bar, Hellwig makes a bolt on bar for these trucks, or at least they used to. Personally, I think that sway bars on these trucks make them too stiff and sort of harsh. I like to set them up with stiffer coils and good shocks. Real easy to double shock these trucks too. Get a second pair of shocks, the hole for the upper stud is already in the coil bucket. Then weld a second pair of lower mounts to the front side of the I-beam. Rides nice, dampens well.
