Hey quick question, Anybody use any of these newer king pin sets with nylon bushings instead of the regular bushings?? what are your thoughts...are they cheaper for a reason?? This is for a 57 chevy 3100 pickup...but I guess the application doesn't really matter.
how long do you want them to last? nylon one year probably, but no machining. brass will last for another lifetime, just like the original ones. nylon ones will never be cheap enough to waste my time doing twice. matt
the nylon/composites pounds out , they tried it on big trucks a few years back . and they would last about a month before the spindles would start getting sloppy , it was a cheap and lazy way to do the job , a bronze king pin bushing if you grease it when you change the oil or every month should last the life of the vehicle and when you grease king pins you jack the front end to get the weight off the spindle first , then again when its on the ground .and wipe off the excess grease . our saying in the shop " grease is cheap, kingpins are expensive "
ive read of teflon bushings...teflon is self lubricating..ive read of bushings installed in 70s still are working fine...just a thought...
