What is the proper way to adj. Valve clearance on 235 hydraulic lifters? Rebuilt engine stock. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I hate to ask - but first, are you sure they are hydraulic? Look at the stamped number on the pad just aft of the distributor, if that number ends with ....54 Y then you're good to go. Any other number/letter combo that doesn't end in Y - they are solid lifters. The shop manual describes a cold setting procedure that is quite involved, but here's the way I do mine: Warm the engine completely. Take off the valve cover. (at this point I install an old cover that I cut the top off of, but this isn't really required as these engines don't throw a lot of oil) With the engine running, one at a time, loosen the lock nut and loosen the adjuster until a click is heard, then slowly begin to tighten the adjuster until the click just goes away, then tighten an additional 3/4 turn. Tighten the lock nut. Repeat for all lifters.
Yes the engine was rebuilt and my dad had a new can and hydraulic lifters put in. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
