going through the same thing right now, check ground wire, might have to pull the sending unit and checking the floater. Sometimes if i put a full tank of gas in it would kick back on but then that quit as well

JC Whitney, $29 for a kit that includes the sender and a gauge. I put one in my 50 Chevy, bolted right in place of the stock one, hid the modern gauge in the glove box, works great, and dead accurate. Cant beat it for the money and not playing a guessing game with old stuff.

Take an old billiards stick or something and insert it into the filler neck all the way down to the bottom of the tank the next time you run out of fuel. With your pocket knife carve a notch on it where it meets the filler tube and another one showing where X-amount of gallons will be after filling it up.

Make sure you have power to the gauge. Pull the other wire off going to the tank sender and see if it goes to Full, this will tell you if the gauge is good. Check the wire to the sending unit, and the connection. Ground that end of the wire and look at the gauge to see if it reads empty. This will verify the wire is good. The sending unit is just a varialble resistor attached to a float. Good Luck.

Where does the hot wire connect to coming from tank sending unit? Should I connect to ignition coil. Or the fuel gauge. Thank you.

Untill you get it fixed, fill the tank up and enter the mileage in your phone as a contact number.like this Gas 101232.Of course this ***umes that you know how far a tank will go and that your odometer works. Its a easy way to not forget.

Once its determined wether its the gauge or the sender, Ecklers makes the right sender and I am sure you can either get a replacement gauge or have it checked over by a place like Bobs Speedometer.

Senders not very expensive if yours quit.
