Got into a discussion off-forum with a couple of members here, because it seems as if there's a ******* match once a day about post-65 engines, frame swaps, EFI, TBI, 700R4 overdrives and the like. Yes, got it on pre-1965 cars/trucks and the bodies thereof. However, none of us could find the official posted guidelines for discussions of engines, trannies and drivelines. Probably out there in front of us; we're just not finding it. I came down on the side of " as long as it looks traditional, no one is going to be checking the SBC date codes." The counter-argument from the other side was there are many come here building pre-65 cars with Mustang II front suspensions, EFI engines, late hemi/big blocks/late diesels, OHC, LS and so on, or dropping an old body on a new ch***is with air, cruise, digital dash and those engines and the tech discussions don't belong here. I just want to do HAMB on HAMB as appropriate. Can anyone post the link to engine/******/driveline posting/discussion guidelines? jack vines
It's not as cut and dried as that. Best guideline is that the essence (look and feel) should be "traditional."
Hell, ALL of my hotrods have OT parts on them.....and I have no intention of changing them just to fit hamb "rules". So I don't post them here. I still enjoy the Hamb though, so much cool stuff to see and learn. I even throw in my 2 cents once and awhile.
I agree, our wagon has a few parts that are not considered by many as traditional but necessity being the mother of invention Onida salad s****s make a great guide for a drop down station wagon back seat. HRP
Seems like I'm always siding with HRP. That does not mean he's always right or I even like him. However, what he just showed and wrote about is true. As far back as this hobby began we used what we had and made it work. So it's difficult at times to draw the line on what is and isn't traditional. Yes, we all pretty well understand the 1965 and back rules and are here for traditonal rods because we love them. Besides, us wagon guys gotta stick together.
I've never seen guidelines on drivetrain components but almost anything OEM and E related is nixed really quick. There are a few and only a few threads that have EFI but they are FARRRR from OEM set ups. The 4l60e trans threads don't get any love around here but the 700r4s get plenty. The difference is the "E". There's a few threads with late model pinto engines that are done very very well and the power plant "looks" vintage. There have been a few with recognizable pinto engines get nixed quickly. Most turbo builds don't stay even though olds had their jet fire turbos in our selected area. Diesel builds don't usually make 1/2 page but there's probably a few. It's hard to tell exactly how many late model drive train threads have been sent away. They aren't in the search. So there's no gauge to see the 1000s that didn't get to stay compared to the handful that did- nor see the difference between the two.
