When bleeding brakes; is it ok to re-cycle the fluid bled out of the wheel cylinder back into the master cylinder or would that have to be considered used and disposed of???

How do you dispose of used brake fluid?/

  2. never recycle brake fluid. even just going in one end and coming out the other, it will pick up contaminants and they are better out of the system than in.

brake fluid should be disposed of in the same way as waste oil.

Never reuse brake fluid, put the fluid in your drain oil, and take it to the parts store, mine take it for free.

I don't. I don't think you can see if there's water or small rust particles in it.

My local recycle at the dump take's it. I keep it in a used 2 gallon oil jug till it's full.

I should have bean more specific.

This is a new system except for the two rear brake cylinders on the drum brakes.

    Is your reply the same??

  6. I would reply the same. Dump the fluid in the waste oil and use new.

A $3 jug of brake fluid isn't so expensive to risk it...

  13. Sorry Ricky but I don't see that as legitimate even by the longest stretch.
The Brake system is the absolute most critical system on the car, there isn't one thing more important. A bit more than a reasonable amount of knowledge about the system needs to be possessed by any person working on the system.

Want some one asking this question working on your brakes?
How about following you or your family or anyone you love in traffic? Think hard !!!

Yea we all need to learn and some of us were fortunate to have someone over our shoulders for our first few brake jobs. Others who may not have had that luxury still needed to learn, there are countless professional publications, service manuals and instructions as well as the label on the brake fluid that specifically states " Do Not Reuse brake fluid from bleeding operationIf they aren't going to read any of that stuff they won't read anything I or anyone write either.

I deleted my post before you replied, Vicky...'cause I gave it a second thought, and realized you may have simply been concerned about the safety factor rather than just busting his balls. But the way your post was worded, it might've also been taken as a jab at the OP.

But maybe I could've worded my reply differently too. Here's my main point and the reason I disagree with you whether it's "legitimate" or not. Of course the brakes are important. So if you're so concerned about the safety factor, why would you risk being tactless and being percieved as belittling the OP, and possibly put him or others off from asking these types of questions?

It's good that he asked. Would you rather he didn't...and maybe used the old fluid?

There is always somebody that has an inconsiderate comment. For some reason they feel superior when they put somebody down for asking an honest question.

I thank the sincere answers and comments and just ignore the ones that are neither helpful nor of interest. They are easy to evaluate as a wise guy with a self inflated ego.

If there were not questions asked, the HAMB would be a dull place.

I for one am thankful for the members that actually comment like they know something and will share their knowledge; not act like a 'know-it-all'.

    Thanks.
