Can a wagon be considered a hot rod or custom or do they belong in the general discussion section? HRP
My 55 Chevy has a long trunk and I've been driving it so long I look at it as a late model daily driver. Keep forgetting when I get thumbs up!.
I really doubt they need their own section Root but I'm sure there are a lot more than 10 station wagon owners,,there's just 10 of us that are vocal! HRP
You know what? The reason I signed up with the hamb was because I enjoy reading about the station wagons, panel trucks, and coe's. I really enjoy all the mods that are made to them. Now that the hamb has changed , seems like there are less post about these great classic's.
I have two. Can I get counted as two votes? It seems the pre-'65 is inclusive to me. Or does it become only vehicles deemed attractive by arbitrary decisions? George Cerney had a pretty cool '50 Plymouth wagon, Cad powered, in the mid-fifities. Tom Beatty used a blown Olds powered '40 Ford delivery as a Bonneville push car. Not everyone built coupes or roadsters Maybe the focus should be on traditional hot rodding rather than specific vehicles built to a museum quality, period correct standard.
I have the ugliest one a 62 studabaker lark wagon mines not very hamb friendly LS motor twin turbo butt spanker! I think its a hot rod, mustangs and cameros dont like it !!
I would put them in general. I just can't see a wagon being a hot rod. A custom maybe, but not a hot rod. BTW I have an OT wagon I drive everyday so I watch all the threads on them. The only things HAMB friendly on it is the 48 Chevy steering wheel and the wood grain down the sides.
That still doesn't say hot rod to me. For me its more of a year thing. I don't really look at anything newer than about 39 as a hot rod.
I would not be surprised to see several more categories being established. For one, there are quite a number of specific threads that, IMO, are too in-depth to be called general, yet do not fit the traditional or custom for one reason or another. And we might see things like wagons, drag cars, etc. I think the more sub divisions, the easier the H.A,M,B, will be to navigate. My .02...again.
I like black and white division in my life, but damn there's a lot of gray area here. 39 ford coupe could be a hot rod but 40 ford coupe not. 40& 41 Willys are past 39 but certainly hotrods. Most race cars fall into hotrod but not all hotrods are race cars, so where's that leave stuff? I'd consider that wompin wagon a Racecar first, a gasser second and a hot rod. So does that make Its main category Hot rod, sub division race car , sub sub gasser. Ryan my hat is off to you, I'm sure you have a master plan for this stuff. Looking forward to seeing it unfold.
I'm looking forward to the changes myself but... Where do guys with cars like mine fall? Not really a hot rod or trad custom. General discussion is really broad. Will it stay the treasure trove it is now after people start to really use the new sub forums? In the grand scheme of things I don't even know where she falls. I remember an article in Hot Rod years back referring to them as Detroit's lost dinosaurs. All the post '50s, pre muscle car era rides. Tech wise lots of what interests me can fall outside the HAMB umbrella because most of the serious gofast changes for my chassis didn't happen until the Rustang era... I'm not building a lowrider or Bellflower style car which is what you usually see done to early '60s rides. I guess my fear is the site becoming too much like lots of "traditional" car meets. All pre-war cars built as hotrods mixed with early '50s customs. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Anyone who has followed or inadvertently stumbled up on Cody Walls incredible build knows full well a wagon can definitely be considered a custom. If you missed it you are ether blind or comatose! HRP http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=458755
I have a 1957 Ford Ranch wagon, and consider this a custom. However, the more I'm on this site, I feel the desire to build a Hot rod. Thinking of selling this to finance a build.
Yeah, I'm subscribed to several and joined some social groups. Just don't seem like their posting as much. By the way fantastic job on your wagon!
why not there are some very cool ones out there anyone know where I can get my hands on a nomad wagon ? my wife is hot for one if anyone knows please pm me thanks!
I could be totally wrong here, but here's what I've learned to believe. "Traditional" hot rods started out as discarded 20's and 30's cars that were found reasonably cheap and bought by younger kids that made them into what they wanted. Mostly stripped down and fast! Well as the years moved on, those 20's and 30's cars became less available and the Hot Rod scene was already in full force. So "other" cars were starting to be used as a Hot Rod. Before you know it, the "traditional" cars that were the most popular are harder and harder to get on the cheap. Four doors and wagons start looking real good when you want a Hot Rod and can't afford "tradition". Now speed up to today. The more doors and wagons are getting harder to find and all the cars that started the Hot Rod scene are next to impossible to find without taking out a loan for us blue collar guys and gals. So, isn't it "tradition" to find affordable cars and trucks to Hot Rod or make a custom?? Just a thought =) Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Well I am currently building a 55 country sedan... but it will definitely not be a standard vehicle when I am done... But then again I consider both my 40 ford pu and my wagon hot rods! they're custom, unique, reflect my personality, with my blood sweat & tears in em and I'll call em what I want! LOL!
Whether or not they can be customs is not in question. I would say it's just as clear that they cannot be traditional hot rods. They can certainly be race cars of many forms.
Mine is gonna run a 10.5 with lace roof, old swap meet parts, fender headers and 3 inches off the ground;STATIC! HOT ROD CUSTOM!
