Throttle Stompers, Long Beach

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by andydodge, Sep 5, 2013.

  1. I have this aluminium car club plaque, have had it now for nearly 40yrs, found it at a long gone Australian car parts importers, Nicks Wreckers in Melbourne Oz........they used to bring in all sorts of parts, when I bought this in the early 70's they had a couple of straight 8 finned heads leaning up against the wall ........lol, we bought Cal Custom bits still in the boxes...and this plaque....... I know there are a few Long Beaches in the USA however I have always wondered whether this was the same plaque that was used by the Los Angeles Long Beach..........does anybody from that area recognise it?.........thanks, Andy Douglas

Wow...really surprised nobody has commented but maybe a couple of days and somebody will see it. Nice collectable for you though.

Maybe ask in the cavaliers thread.
They are having a reunion soon and a few old timers will be there..

  9. A couple of yrs ago I sent pics of this plaque to some website that listed these, it was the only one that they knew of then, and yep that was me, Andy Douglas, Andyd or Andydodge who posted the pic on the Customs thread........lol..............bottom line is I still don't have any more info now then what I had........its from Long Beach but where?..........lol.........I have a mate here in Oz who took a fibreglass copy a few yrs ago and I have a couple of these together with the one alloy plate...........I'd just like to think that I have something that maybe from the early days of real customs...........lol.........andyd

My how time flies! Yes Andy, you did send me a photo of the Throttle Stompers plaque that I added to the Long Beach page on our website. But it was added in August of 2009, over four years ago.

I don't have any additional info about this club but do have a couple of friends from the Long Beach, CA area that I can ask. And you are correct about several places named Long Beach, in the states and also one I know of in British Columbia, Canada.

FYI: There were a lot of car clubs in Long Beach, CA in the 50's and 60's!

  11. What originally brought all this up was when I bought Pat Ganahl's book on The American Custom Car and saw the reference on page 18 to the 37 Dodge owned by Neil Emory and Bill Faris'38 Ford and the photos captions mention that Neil Emory, Clay Jensen & Bill Faris were all members of the Throttle Stompers club............with Emory & Jensen both being the owners of Valley Customs later I am hoping that I have a club plaque that harks back to guys that built some of the most beautiful Customs ever ...............lol...........not that this really means that much but.....lol....I can always dream.........lol.......and as this plaque is not drilled for any bolts or screws it is hard to maintain that it came from these cars.......anyway I am surprised that no one has been able to recognise the plaque.........AndyD

I doubt that was the same club because Long Beach is a long way from "The Valley".

I just checked a book I have called "Hot Rod and Custom Car Clubs". It lists a bunch of clubs from the 40's, 50's and 60's and there is a Throttle Stompers from Burbank, CA listed. Since Valley Customs was located in Burbank I would assume that would be their club.

I thought this sounded familiar and just noticed your post. I also responded with pretty much the same answers in that thread.
