My 54 has the stock 235 in it. It's started leaking more as I've driven the car more this year. I'm going to re-gasket the engine and was wondering if there was anything else I should do if I'm going to be dropping the pan and opening the side covers to do the gaskets? Thanks, Scott
When you redo the rope seal on the rear main just replace it with a newer style neoprene one. THe rope seal is usually the biggest leaker on the 235's. http://www.classicparts.com/1953-62-Neoprene-Rear-Main-Seal-235-CI/productinfo/80-332/
Get your parts from Best Gasket and use the rope seal for your rear main. The 54 block in no properly machined for the neoprene seal, I tried it and it leaked bad.
