I checked "search" after I tried to chisel out one of my rear end seals (STUPID) and found the trick with using an axle as a lever. However, these ******s are STUCK. I've sprayed "MOOVIT" on them and will try again tomorrow. However, if they won't budge is it OK to warm the axle housing up on the outside a little in order to break the bond? Don't want the old oil and grease lighting up! Would only use a propane torch. Thanks in advance.

What kind of rear? In most cases, a seal hook pry tool, or even a slide hammer with a J hook will get them out.

I can't see heat helping. You need force :)

'42 FARGO. They were installed the day before rocks were invented. Tried the seal removal tool; it broke. Will try the slide hammer. Should have done this before I installed the 3rd member.

Are you replacing bearings too? If so, you need a puller anyway. Heating the housing will not help. How far apart is the axle? If you are taking it all the way apart, use a long pipe and hammer and pound it out from the opposite side. It was the easiest way we found at the shop.

See my last sentence in my last post. Didn't think it would be that tough. I may have to pull the 3rd member back out if other solutions don't work. Bearings look good so they're staying on the axle.
