I recently acquired a 59 Ford 2 Door Country Sedan Wagon. Is anyone familiar with these? If so, Do you know if the Rear and Front Bumpers on the 59 wagons are the same as a 59 ford Car? I am looking at getting some new Bumpers for it eventually but i wasn't sure if they are interchangeable without modifications and do not want to end up getting the wrong one. Also, i was told the gas tanks on the wagons are different from the cars as well. Does anyone if there is a sending unit reproduced for the wagons? Or if there is a way to modify a unit to make it work accurately? Any Help is appreciated! Thanks!
Gas tanks are different between the cars and wagons/Rancheros. Front bumpers are the same. Rear bumpers appear to be the same, but I've never placed them side by side.
Rear bumps are different. Not sure about fronts. Fuel tank sending units Good luck. Have NEVER seen an N.O.S. unit availiable and I have been looking for about 4 years now. Take a look see at this link regarding what I did to get an accurate fuel gauge sender into my Edsel Roundup. http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/Topic66047.aspx The 2 door 1958 Edsel Roundup uses the same tank as the 57-59 Ranchero and your car. Good luck. Oldmics
Rear bumper looks similar,,you might check with Tri-City Plating in Elizabethton,Tenn.,,they swap bumpers out..I got a beautiful set from them. As for a gas tank,,Auto City Cl***ics offers one for a a Ranch Wagon.
Often times I've found the sending unit itself is fine. The floats will rot or leak and fill with gas and sink. Dennis Carpenter has new br*** floats. The other large issue is the unit looses ground. The unit and gauge rairly go bad. The other item to check is the gauge regulater on the back side of gauge cluster. The Wizzard
You should be able to modify a sending unit to work with the wagon tank. The variabel resistor will work with your gage. That's the hard part. Modifying an arm to fit your tank should be easy enough.
If it's a 2-door, it's a Ranch Wagon. Country Sedans were mor-doors... Nice score... I used to have one with a built 352 PI and a toploader 4-speed. Not much for handling, but a ton of fun. Front/rear bumpers are the same for all, but I recall the rear bumper brackets being different on the wagons/trucks.
Thanks for your help! I parked it next to a 59 car and it looks the same. Might have to try it on just to be sure though! haha
Thanks for your help HRP! My tank is nice, but the sending unit is having issues. i pulled it out, think it's the bobber because i got it working and then it stopped again haha Thanks for the help. Yeah, i measured the resistance on my unit and it was working fine, so i think the bobbber is shot. I soldered it up where i thought it was leaking and it aroekd for a little bit thens topped again. However, Full was at 1/4 tank so i think my resistance might be low as well? Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the help man. I love it. i have put over 4k miles on it since june. It still has the stock 223 I6 too! But i dont agree that it's a ranch wagon... I have the original ford brochure that shows ford made a 2 door country sedan and well as a 2 door ranch wagon. Mine still has the original emblem on it that says country sedan. Take a look at this link. It's even the same color scheme as mine! haha I've been doing a lot of research on the car. http://www.flickriver.com/photos/37573576@N06/4557710964/

If you had a leak and soldered it up you added weight to the float. That is most likely the issue. New ones are cheep and probably your fix. The Wizzard
That might be it. when i put it into the tank it floated and you could tell a noticeable difference. I'm thinking there might be another leak i missed still and it filled up again. I'll have to look into the enw floats. Thanks!
Ranch Wagon was the base model, Country Sedan was the mid range and the Country Squire was the top of the line. Did not make a difference if it was a two door or a four door wagon. Tidy wagon, I wish we had two door wagons in Australia
