68 Vette, Not all torsion bar cars are bad. Look at the early VW bug and early Porsche and XKE Jag. Those cars did very well and didn't break bars like some others. A friend had a 48 Ford with Cordoba K member and torsion bars and it rode so much better than a 48 Ford with Mustang II suspension. I had progressive coil overs on the back of my 32 Ford, Took them off and had a better ride with straight coil rate. Also I have shocks with adjustable damping. It makes it better when you can tune the suspension.

My Volaré sprung F-100 rode awesome. Hopefully, you've relaxed since your last post.

    Agreed^^^^
This post has a lot of good info and just like the 'which engine is best' questions, there will never be consensus on any singular system. Best idea is to simply state your facts, and even opinions, and then let the other readers decide what works for them or what they want to explore/invest in.

REAL world applications need to be looked at.

If the Mopar torsion bar suspension is so inferior, why did the Bullit Mustang (coil front end) need major suspension upgrades and overhaul (as well as engine and drivetrain) in order to be able to TRY to keep up with the 99.5% stock '68 Charger? (which it could not)

I know from personal experience that a B body Mopar will outhandle just about any other-branded stock set-up muscle car of the same era. Not sure if book knowledge covers all scenarios here. Mopar performance exceeded that of Ford and Chevy in the 60's and early 70's....

    I agree... a bad design.

I went for a few rides with Dwight in his torsion bar '56 F100 35 years ago.. the thing rode like a baby buggy.

I just fixed the frame on a 34 ford with a torsion bar front last week.

  13. Someone PMd me about torsion bar setups last week. This thread deserves a bump. And I DO NOT sell the parts like I mentioned a few years back. I still have access to them but with supplier and market changes it became cost prohibitive to continue.

It's like running leaf springs or coil springs: it's a matter of matching the components to the application and installing them correctly. I've ridden/driven a number of cars that rode very well because the owners did their homework, and a few that rode like a rock because the owners didn't!

I recently contacted Moal about one of their deuce torsion bar ch***is and the price was now quite a bit higher than shown on their site. Cost of everything is going up.

With a front dead perch where does the roll center go? With a center slide locater it is what it is.
