Cool old wrecker....taking a pic off of a TV screen isn't easy.

  2. Yep . I plead guilty to watching old movies just for the cars. Wife always asks "What kind of car is that?"

Loved all of those old Hollywood serials and the great cars from the 30's and 40's . One that springs to mind is "The Masked Marvel" which depicts a nice 39 Ford Woody with Marmon Herrington 4X4 conversion.

There was another series of movies with Jackie Moran and Marica May Jones. The Haunted House is one of them Jackie get about in a neat old Chev roadster. A true jalopy. There are many more of them.

  3. I prefer French cinema to Hollywood. However I recently watched an old Hollywood job just for the cool forties rides (lots of '42's!)- rare & good to see.
Sorry I didn't catch the ***le- I stumbled onto it. A holiday resort was the 'mise en scene' and the resort used a cool woody to transport guests.

Just watched a newer movie "the Thirteenth Floor". computer programers create an alternate world in which they can go to L.A. in 1937. Had some neet old cars in it.

The other night I bumped into "The Last Picture Show" made in 1971 about the early fifties. Lots of great actors appearing in side roles but the best part was the cars. Jeff Bridges buys a bran new Merc "with just over 1,000 miles" and there's shoebox convertibles, some cool old (mid 30s) coupes and some cool old pickups. I've been tryi9ng to find that portion of the movie all day but here's a scene you might like.

Is this a good thread to post more cool clips of old movies with cool cars? Or is there a better thread?

The last picture show is a good movie, I especially like the skinny dipping scene. Another great movie for Model A's is Paper Moon.
I was watching Vertigo the other night and forgot how great the beginning of that movie is for cars and great street scenes of San Francisco in 1958. Jimmy Stewart following Kim Novak all over the city in a nice DeSoto and all the cars on the street were looking so good. I love movies like that that are shot in color and in broad daylight where you can really see the cars & the original colors well.

Old 1938 Ronald Reagan film, "Accidents Will Happen" about insurance fraud. Lots of cars, some in phoney wrecks, and a Packard 12 roadster faking a pedestrian hit in a safety zone. The film isn't that great but the cars are worth the watch.

While at Hershey 2yrs ago ended up watching an old movie called "Small Town Girl" or something like that. The guy drives around in a Duesenberg and gets all ga-ga over a local gal. There's a monster traffic jam in town for a local college game or something. The cars involved will drive you bananas. He "hits" a 34 Packard with his Duesy while breaking out of traffic. Yeah, right...

The Munster coach was built in the Barris shop as a prop for the show. It had a frame of rectangular steel, a Ford 289 and automatic, and the body pieced together from fibregl*** Model T roadster bodies.

In the TV show we see Lilly Munster shopping for a car as a birthday present for Herman. On a used car lot, she sees a twenties he**** and a hot rod and convinces the salesman to combine the 2 cars into one.

The car was such a hit with the audience ratings went up every time it appeared so they used it more and more, and followed up with Grandpa Munster's Dragula, also built by Barris.

If you like old cars in action get a load of this. See cars, boats and planes. See the intrepid stunt man tooling around Hollywood, past all the night spots in his Duesenberg convertible. Then rolling a new car and denting the Fedora he wears for a crash helmet, testing the new Fisk tires to destruction.

Any body else wince and reflect how much that car would be worth today when the wreck one? W.C. Fields "Poppy" is one for that. He goes hunting Road Hogs and they really jack up some 20's,30's $10.00 cars.
Look up the 30's Green Hornet series. Hilarity, and cool cars.

Bad Day At Black Rock with Spencer Tracy. At the beginning of the movie there is a short clip of a 33ish Willys coupe shell. Gives you the shivers, Willys coupe + desert = dry car! Later on a really cool old he****. Added bonus, it's a great movie well worth watching.

Perry Mason, Highway Patrol, Peter Gunn all had a lot of "period" cars. I believe there was a Peter Gunn episode with Norm Grabowski and his T bucket. On Highway Patrol old Broderick Crawford really punched the cars from a dead stop. I understand they had to get the driving out of the way early in the day because he liked to drink a little.

I just tried to put up a couple pics of my Stude being filmed in Dig Two Graves, but this time the Hamb app demanded WRITE PERMISSIONS on my phone.
    That's the first time...
I would not give it WRITE PERMISSIONS on my phone, so apparently I cannot post pictures here any more.

I remember an episode where this priest was a gear head and he was teaching the teengers how to tune there cars. When Grandpappy went to *****, a priest came out from under the hood. Unknown to grandpaps while he was having a long talk to the priest, the teens tuned his truck up. When Amos got in it to leave, he was amazed at the power and started burning rubber all over the place and wet flying down the road saying YEEHAAA!!!!
