I'm going to be in Greenville South Carolina for a couple days for work, anything HotRod, Custom Car, Or Drag Racing related in the area I should check out while in town?? Thanks,Nick
There is a drag strip on highway 25 between Ware Shoals and Princeton. Not sure if still in operation or not. Used to go there when I was a kid. If no car action, there's plenty of scenic drives to go on in the Smokies... Real close is Joel R Poinsett bridge north of Greenville on Hwy 25, or drive up US 276 to the Blue Ridge Parkway, then go east on it to Cherokee NC, north on US 441 to Gatlinburg TN, east on US 321 to Cosby, then take I-40 south to connect with US 25 south to Greenville again. You will see lots of pre-fall scenery. The peak is in October.
middle of the week.... not much, greer dragway on the weekend. or like the man said , ride and see the fall colors up to cherokee
I was going to suggest The BMW Zentrum Museum, but it is closed for remodeling. To be honest there isn't a lot that would interest a car guy on Monday & Tuesday night. HRP
You could stop by Gene Fulton's shop in Spartanburg . . . pretty low key deal and they've got all kinds of stuff in there. Don't know if he lets just anyone in the back part of the shop though as my cousin was best friends with his daughter in high school so it was through her that we got to stop by.
Ride down 385 to hwy 14 Greycourt/ Owings, cross over the interstate and take frontage road. There is place called C.A.R.S. has lots of old iron. On down 14 towards Laurens as you come up the hill on the right is Charles' place. You'll see a row of old iron. Talk to the old guy and tell him Russ the mural painter sent you. He has some neat stuff (at least last time I was there) out back and lots of cool parts. Southern rods is in Greer. There is a rod shop on 85 heading toward Anderson, look on the right. He does the one lap races.
Wednesday night bike night at Greenville Harley and Quaker State, usually some ole hot rods there. I-85 and 385 off the frontage road.
Carolina Rod Shop,,Glenn Dodd. The only problem with checking out these places is they usually close at 5 or 6 PM. HRP
Greenville has a model train museum, of all things, but I didn't see much car stuff when I was checking it out a while back. There is a you-pull salvage there, I forget who's - LKQ or somebody. Sometimes they get oldies in there, last year in Columbia I popped a '57 Chevy steering wheel off and flipped my $10 investment for $50 this summer.
Yeah, just don't get mugged,Greenville has had a rash of fights and robbery's around the Falls Park area in the last few weeks. Sad,because Greenville is a great town. HRP
Thanks for all the suggestions! I don't have a car so probably wont visit anything out of town, but there is a Twin Peaks next to my hotel........
