What the heck is this thing? It has all the feel of an early Ford production overdrive unit. This is what I know about the box 1. The unit mounts behind a early toploader or side loader three speed transmission. It has a standard early v8 u joint and clamshell that bolts to the rear if the transmission. 2. The rear of the unit also has an early Ford v8 u joint with a clam shell that bolts right up to a closed torque tube. 3. The unit manually shifts from a 1 to 1 input to output ratio to about a 20% overdrive input to output ratio. 4. It has a lube fill tube with a nut and dipstick just like a model A motor. 5. The unit requires an additional middle cross member to be installed for stability. Please tell me what I have!
Might want to post over on ford barn also....I don't have any other info for ya though. Would be a nice piece to get working, make highway driving nice in an early car.
Nope, it's a direct and low under drive for an early AA truck. These were used before they created the AA truck trans to get the gears lower. I have one in my shop, I believe some people have turned them round and used them as an overdrive and gained the c20% improvement. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That is so cool! Thanks all. I'll open the box this week and check out the condition of the gears and bearings. Again thanks. It was driving me crazy! Jmknight
