x2 plus custom gage cluster insert.......

Unless those qtr panels are going on the truck bed......... Then might as well pimp out the dash too.........

Awesome looking build JOYFLEA. I find it bizarre that there is another mind out there that is on the same warped path as mine. I will be starting my build this winter. 38 Ford COE. I have a 59 dash, was looking at doing a tilt bed with the sleeper, same as yours, and lucky for you I could never find the 59 Dodge 1/4's. If we ever showed up to a show together people would start to wonder.

Keep up the good work. Maybe some more details on the hydro pump and lift details if you can.

    WTH man.
I just crossed over to the twilight zone.
    57 gmc bumper??
    59 dodge quarters???

    Are you reading my thoughts???
I have a 57 gmc bumper on my coe and I been drooling over a set of dodge 1/4s.
Oh well some people are luckier than me.
    Looking good.

B-BOP , the 29 is gone , traded for tools and $2000 worth of powder coating .It was a project .

On the 59 dash , with a stock cab it puts wheel to close . My seat will be here today and will know better . Been working on floor supports and will bead roll 16 ga. floor as soon as I can get a helper .

My friend MOON and I went for a mc ride last Friday to New Mexico to the Aspincade .Great 700 mile trip . Back to it on Monday . Tore out temp floor and removed the seat riser . Decided not to use the buckets I found at Pate . Had Wanda in Ca. build me a custom seat and it came in last Friday . Built a sub frame that fits from front to back body mounts . Cut new back fb and installed (temp} seat to get amount of room left .

B-BOP , it looks like if I put 59 dash in the wheel will be way to close . I will be using the stock one instead ..

I have include some photos of a great sheetmetal layout tool .Also a photo of my good buddy Ross's 48 Indian chief . He stopped in Monday on his way back to Fl. from Oregon . This is one riding dude and always on old bikes . ENVY !

Love those seats, they look perfect. Too bad about the dash, if I were a little closer I would come grab it off ya. Love your buddies Chief. Hope to have one on my flatdeck some day. Two mores shows to go to this weekend, then its lock the doors on the shop and get to work time.

I narrowed the sleeper to the same width as the running boards on the truck and I think it was about 7'. The bed was a bit wider. I think about 8' or just under. The 1 ton rear axle is pretty wide and I built the bed wide enough to cover the tires.
A couple more pics to maybe show relationship of bunk and deck to cab.

After looking at some of my pics I remembered that I built the deck narrower at the front then the back. I sure don't remember how much though. Maybe about 4" - 6". This pic kind of shows how the checker plate gets wider as it goes towards the back.
From the center or the wheel opening to the back bumper it's the same width. From a side view the difference in width wasn't noticeable but from the back view you could see it.

Sleepers are generally about 90' or 91". As far as rear-end width it depends on whether it's a dually pick-up or a cab & ch***is dually. A cab & ch***is dually rear is narrower than a dually pick-up

GaryN , I was thinking to narrow the same as running boards . Yours looked just right . Thanks for the photos and I bet you do miss her .

The sleeper I have is 90"x 60" . I will be cutting it down in both directions . The frame work for the gas tanks is 77" wide so the bed will be at least 84" wide with 6" wide rear fenders . I am using a dually rear end . Blue

Would love to make LSR, but just checked it and 2100 miles for a maiden voyage could be a stretch.

  19. My Dana 80 from a 97 Dodge pick-up is 95" to the outside of the tires.
I think the cab/ch***is is about 4" narrower.

I took on a project seams like a million years ago for a neighbor . Its a model a coupe , stock . I am redoing the whole running gear , frame , everything under sheet metal. Only work on it about 4 hours a week because he dosen't have any money . This week I put the body on . I've got to get it out of shop before it gets cold . My shop is in two parts . one side no heat . the other heated . I am going to try to put coe in heated side by Nov.

Back to fun part , I layed out the cut out in back of cab for access to sleeper . Now it gets scarrrrrrry:eek: ,cutting big hole ,point of no return !!

Also hung a/c heat unit . pulled coe out into the sun and did a good floor clean .

Worked hard not smart the last two days . Cut the corners out and tacked them in with my mig . Then I used a tool I made(see photos) to fold over the remaining sheet metal over a pipe to start connecting the corners . I then moved down the seat mount in the cab to match the lower opening . I will him the metal over it and it should be real strong and stiffen up the cab . I just need to make patch panels .

I got paid for the A project and took the money and ordered a 4' pan break and deep mouth stretcher . When the come in I will build inner panel .

As soon as I get this hole done the way I like it I am going to sit down and teach myself to tig weld . All weld shrink but would like to be able to work it back . As of now I have lots of hammer and on and off dolly work to do . BLUE

Finished roughing in my bay window . First I made some fillers and then tacked them in . The body seams real strong with no flex . Burned through in places , the body is 18ga but some of the rust places measure 24/26ga. Any thoughts ? I'm kind of scared to blast body because its so thin , any suggestion ?

I'm going to relax the rest of the day and watch some football and have a toddy or two .

As far as the thin areas, it's never going to be easier to fix them then now during the build. So blast and repair now or regret later

Time to install a big screen tv in that opening for the viewing pleasure of the people driving behind you.

I know you already chose your engine, but I have been waiting to see someone drop one of these in a COE:

I understand about budget and you are obviously past the point of engine fitment. It' far less then $35k though.

What kind of bikes are you hauling?
