So I finally got her in some pretty awesome storage and today we got some dirt on our hands!

We had to air her out, smelt pretty bad like mildew to be honest. It's probably the rotting wood between the panels. I hope I'm not dealing with asbestos as there seems to be some fiber stuff in the back!

Here are some pictures throughout the day. We got both doors off. I almost killed myself when i debolted a door spring and the spring coiled up as i untightened the last bolt ... lucky i didn't chop my head off!

We removed the hood panels and most lightings around the truck.

The plan for this week is to remove the front grill and take out the motor etc. I'm going to attempt to rebuild that ford 300 inline 6 engine though it sounds brand new already!

Any tips on how to remove stubborn rusted bolts or nails? Thanks

divco13 that would be absolutely great. you're awesome! today I'm going to try to remove the center piece aka nose. I want to strip her of all wirings etc and prep her ready to be blasted.

I am not sure what I should be blasting her with? soda, sand, walnut?

I'm going to "try" to take the engine out by weeks end.

If it's the 300 inline then you have a great motor. Easy to rebuild and put some goodies on. Did one last year for a customer and it was strong and sounded cool. Have fun.

So today all that was done was the head lights and i was able to snip off a window. Im trying to get the front grill section off but it's a such a pain since most of these rusty bolts are bolted double sided ... honestly driving me crazy because I have to hold one side and twist another? Is there a easier way to do this guys? I mean, chances are these bolts are all going to be replace regardless ... open to ideas.

I just want to take this engine out but i forsee some big nugget bolts that may drive me crazy.

For anyone whos done a resto/mod on a Divco or any other truck, what are the usual steps on restoration. Like what would you all tackle first. I've decided to tackle the engine first, but also remove all the "guts" so i can prepare her to get the body and frame. Is that common procedure?

BTW Can someone tell me how to post nice thumbnails on this board, i apologize for the big pics!

  14. Looks like a great project,,thanks Larry,now I know what I'm looking at. HRP

Yes I've seen that website, thank you for reposting it Steve. Here is another site:

Theres a picture halfway down that shows what I'm trying to do with the front and engine. Just prepping her to get blasted which I'm still confused on what the best method is. I heard Soda is really bad and sand is too rough. Glass or walnut?

Good luck on the build and I think using walnut shells for blasting would be best for the body.

For rusted bolts a mixture of ATF and acetone is the most effective penetrant. Another method is to heat the bolt, propane torch is ok, and drip wax, the wax will wick into the threads, the heat itself will help. On blind screws, bolts a whack with a hammer and rocking the fastener back and forth helps.

Thank you for that tidbit. I actually did buy a torch, not the wax so i should try that -- ive been nervous using the torch with all the fumes around so im going to first try the ATF and acetone penetrant. I appreciate this feedback!

good luck with the divco its a pretty cool looking project

  20. Sometimes it is quicker, easier to tighten the small stuff (1/4, 5/16, 3/8) another 1/2 turn and let them twist off. (not good with blind nuts though)
