Hi I been searching high and low on Ideas for a cab mount. I need to make a better looking one than this. How would you make it? Please share pics if you have them.
Was impressed with this COE cab mount - posts 135 thru 140...... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=762207&showall=1
The doughboys mounts look great . I also have some photos on my project that went real easy with the use of speedway chevy motor mounts .If you like them Seth let me know and i'll see if I can get more photos . BLUE JAY
So its been more then a week losing sleep and just looking at other peoples brackets and mounts so I can start making my own. I need to ****can the ones above and make new ones for the rear below the cab. I already started cutting some metal but I wasnt "feeling" it. So today,I give it another shot and whatdayaknow? Everything sort of "clicks". A couple of grinds here and there then some metal cleaning and then i start tacking stuff together. I'm pleased on how the bracket looks that i run a little welding bead on the corner. Awesome! So I run another bead and then I finish one side. "This looks ok but next side I will do a continuous bead" This is the result of the first part.
I start on the other side trying to make one long good looking bead. My son is playing around me so I tell the wifey to keep him from looking ant the pretty light. I finish then I clean it and Im so proud of myself that I hurry to take pics.
iwanna flattie it even happens to the best of us , I welded 6 teeth on a excavator bucket upside down before I realized something didn't look right , thats why they invented plasma cutters ... always try to draw a set of prints no matter how crude it is to refer too , and label your parts with a sharpie or soapstone for orientation . , as brainfarts get more common when you get older ..
Poster board is your friend. Even if you make it pieces you can make a 'single' in paper then copy each part. At my age and with my daily schedule of work and errands it's too easy to forget where I was any more. With a 'paper part' it's like you never forget. Just sayin...
That's funny right thar! Reminds me of the canoe builder cartoon. All done and one end was up and the other pointed down!
Thanks for the suggestions. Especially poster board one. Ive been using it with great results. Well except this one. I wasnt even mad after I realized the level of my stupidity. I busted out laughing, speaking in 3rd person about the idiot that just welded it backwards... Always double check always measure twice cut once.
Naw, just need more hours in the day...... new beginnings? sounds serious......hope it works out for you.
