Sept. 2013 is also the last issue that I've received with my subscription. However, there's a new special "Best of the '60s" Hot Rod Deluxe that's on some newsstands now. It's definitely one to keep!
November has a great feature on The Empress, a**** other things. Reader's photos. I got one on the 17th.
I was 17. The picture is an out take from the April '62 R&C Rod Test. Dad was timing the 0-60 and 0-100 times with a stop watch for the article. R&C editor, Mike Lamb, was tight with Mickey and could get the keys to LIONS whenever he needed the strip for a story. It was the middle of the week and we had the whole place to our selves. I had never seen that pic and actually think it's better than the one used in the article. It always seemed funny to me that we were blasting down a drag strip, I had my helmet and belts on, and dad was just sitting there with nothing but a stop watch!
I always wondered was that engine out of one of your dads sprint cars. Sprint/roadster/ jalopy driver Bob Hogle ..always said you dads cars and engines were the best.
I think you have my dad confused with someone else. Dad never ran a sprint car, only midgets. The engine in the roadster in that photo was a crate long block '62 Vette 283 fuelie, box stock, except 2 WCFB's instead of injection.
