I'm about to install an electric coolant fan in my '39 Ford with a 355 SBC. I have a capillary type sender with the knob to adjust. Should it be in the top tank or bottom? I don't want to use the pet**** location. Also, should I consider a sender? If so, where is a good mounting location? Thanks in advance, Rod
When I built my 37 Ford (24 years ago), I put the sensor in the bottom tank (removed the pet****). Running a Walker radiator and have never had a problem. This isn't to say willys1 is wrong, but just how I did it and it works. Stu
As long as it is coolant, as you'll be setting the turn-on temperature with the dial. Mine is in the pet**** fitting, and I recently loosened the crush nut, when I had to drain the radiator for thermostat change. Worked out fine. If it fits, you could use a "T" fitting to install both the sensor and drain pet****, if that's your concern.
We used to stick those in the upper radiator hose under the clamp at the radiator. Your going to turn the knob to where ever you want to turn the fan on. Don't really matter where you put the tube. Thought the pet**** was a good place.
