I always thought a Pontiac OHC 6 Sprint motor would be cool simply for the oddball factor and because I love '60s Pontiacs.
I am running a nasty 455 built for a jet boat that I bought the boat and yarded the motor out it, motor sounds great, but it sure loves premium fuel.... that and performance parts are sure expensive for it.
Different...but fun!!! Pontiac 194.5" from a 1962 Tempest in my 9 year old son's 26 roadster. Helps with a few issues: Starter IS on the left, but facing forward, Basic stuff is all Poncho 389 (head, pistons, valves, exhaust manifold and such) BOP pattern for trans, only minor machining needed to retro your choice of gearbox.
here's an easy one, i good running 1965 studebaker thunderbolt 283 from canada mated to a th350 i should be able to drive this car anywhere.
A friend of mine has an almost over-restored Model A DeLuxe rumble-seat roadster that has been passed down generation to generation in his family. Basically a family heirloom. He converted his to juice brakes, and has thought about installing a Pinto 4 cylinder. He said it is a fairly common transplant in his circle, if you don't want a line of cars behind you on the open road.
A banger with an OHV conversion would look pretty good... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=20642&pictureid=408551
Hmmmm! Where have I seen that motor before? 283 from 1965? Rams horn manifolds? Mates up to a 350 tranny? Hmmmm looks familiar. I think I see a belly button!?!
Well you know what they say, anything without a belly button is an alien. I would think that one would be hard pressed to call a small journal small block a belly button. But I guess if you would call something a belly button by it popularity and use that the flathead ford V-8 was the first belly botton and on this site is also the current belly button.
Sorry to say i have to agree. Flatheads have become pretty common these days. In one way I'm kinda glad to see it. It other ways a bit sad. They are a cool motor. Hate to see them become so common that they aren't appreciated any more.
How about a GM ECOTEC 4 cyl ? My Son has a HHR SS and it flies. The rear wheel drive can be found in the Pontiac Solace or the Saturn . At the Gatornationals, I saw a dragster with an ECOTEC ( highly modified ) run in the sixes at 205 mph.
What about a 396ci Hemi? I really like the look of those engines and they are pretty powerful too. Or maybe a 390ci Caddy with quad carby's? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
