I was out looking for cars before the snow hits, and found what appeared to be a dilapitated farm. The house is boarded up, a few of the barns have fallen down, but someone still mows the lawn and rides four-wheelers it appears. In one of the barns, I found a few cars. Conv. Fairlane, two 'Stangs, two Mercs, a shoebox, F-250, Ford Deluxe, and most noteworthy, a splitwindow Cadillac. Now the thing that strikes me most odd about this thing, is that it was a P/U, I **** you not. The body style looked similar to that of a p***enger car, but it was a two door, with a bed and what looked to be a dilapitated canvas cover. I have never heard of such a thing, but the upholstery looked factory, and there was about a foot of space behind the front seat and the rear of the cab. I believe that it was a unibody. Has anybody ever heard of such a beast, or is this most likely an old custom? I might go out to the farm again to take pics. Thanks for any help.
There were quite a few old Cadillac pickup trucks, built by he**** companies to haul flowers and memorial stuff to cemeteries during funerals. They were known as "flower cars". And please don't snoop around on someone else's property unless you have permission to do so. Shouldnt' be hard to find out who owns the property, and they might be glad to show you what they have laying around. Doing it without permission can get you shot at or arrested for tresp***ing. Food for thought.
It wasn't as much of a tank as the first one, the body style and trim was closer to the second one. Any ideas as to the years of those cars? Thanks for the help.
Ever heard of an Austrailian UTE? Lots of them made in almost every body style made. I saw a 1950 ford UTE at the Maggie Valley car show a couple of years ago. Looked like a 1950 ranchero.
Probably an old flower car. Check out the movie Alice's Restaurant with Arlo Guthrie. The bunch of hippies in the movie drive around in a decent 53 Caddy flower car.
My grandfather (R.I.P) was an undertaker in Westboro, MA. He always had Caddy he****s and flower cars. If I was a good kid he'd let me ride up front sometimes. Not for funerals, just running errands. I was always in awe of those cars and afraid to get close to them in the garage for fear of scratching the flawless black paint.
