Should just have to remove the four axle retainer bolts through the big hole in the axle flange and out they come. May need to put a drum on with a couple lug nuts and use it as a slide hammer.

Just make sure you don't go nuts and yank the backing plate off with it and bend the brake lines.

    Integral carrier or drop out?
Integral carrier tires and wheels off, take cover off diff and remove bolt that holds spider gear shaft and spider gears. Then remove spider gears and shaft.
Push in one axle at a time and the horseshoe clip comes out. Then do other side.
Drop out diff you remove tires and wheels and rattle of the axle shaft retainer bolts on both sides. Flip drum over and use it as a slide hammer to remove axles.

this rear end has had disc brakes added. i noticed the wheels on the left side wobbles a little. i checked the wheel and its fine so i am thinking its the axle bearing. i got the rotor off, but the axle wont come off easily.

the pumkin doesnt have a removable cover on the back, so i am hoping the axle will come out with the slide hammer and no clips are involved?

loosen the 4 bolts at the backing plate then put a crowbar between the axle flange & the wheel cyl and pry GENTLY it should pop loose without much trouble

No rear cover, it's a drop out. should be 4 nuts/bolt with a retainer behind axle flange that need to be removed to pull axle. May require a axle puller. If it's wobbling I'd check for a bent axle flange or how your rotor seats on the flange (***uming they're on top) doesn't sound like a bearing issue to me.

No cover on the back = drop out. With the 4 bolts holding the backing plate and retainer on.

You should be able to slip a socket with extension through the hole in the axle flange and take the nuts off.

Before you do that turn the axle slowly after you pull the wheel and rotor off as the axle may be bent if you have a wobble. set something like a jack stand next to the axle flange so you can tell if you have runout when you are turning the axle. My guess is you have a bent wheel as the wheel bearings on those axles won't cause the wheel to have runout of they are bad, they just make noise and you can feel the bad bearing going across smooth pavement.

    X2.

Before pulling the axle, do a run-out check. If you don't have a dial indicator; you can clamp some steel together to almost touch the flange face, then slowly turn the axle to see if the gap changes.

24riverview types faster than I do, that looking to see if anything is keeping the rotor from seating flat on the axle flange is a good idea.

thanks for all the great advice.

i checked the runout on the flange and there was none, it runs straight with no wobble, so no need to pull the axle. i cleaned both the flange and the inside of the rotor, bolted it on and checked the runout with the rotor on. i checked the surface the wheel bolts to, not the surface the brake pad goes on.

it wobbles about 1/8th of an inch so i guess the rotor is the problem.

i guess i need to go get e new rotor???

thanks again for the help, you guys saved me from pulling the axle for nothing.

turns out the problem was the lugs struds, they were differnt and one of the should of one of them was sticking out past the surface of the axle flange, not allowing the rotor to sit flush. i changed it out for the right one and now all is good, the wheel no longer wobbles.

    thanks again
