Got a 65 el camino, and over the exhaust leaks on headers, as well as clearance issues with the upper a-arms. Car is on bags, and looking to go back to a cast exhaust manifold. Any suggestions? I see Sanderson has a nice pair qp1200, but states not for vortec heads. Anyone work with these in determining a way they can work. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Do you have actual Vortec heads, or what folks often mistakenly call Vortec heads, which are just centerbolt heads?
I have vortec heads. 383 striker motor for blueprint engines. And yes it does have center bolts. But I have the 383 with vortec heads. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I'd give consideration to the type of exhaust manifolds used on say a 1996 Caprice Cop car, LT1. These are an over-the-plug type of manifold, with individual runners that go up and back, then drop down to a "collector". Plug the A.I.R. ports, remove the tin coverings, possibly drill a extra exhaust flange hole (these are for 7 bolt exhaust port heads), and paint them with Bar-B-Que, flat black, paint; I use the brush on type. We have them on my old, now my nephews, 51 Chevrolet Business Coupe, with a .030 over 350, mildly built. Sounds good, makes good power, and don't have that ting-ting, tinny sound, steel tube headers have. They also don't leak like headers eventually do! They were also used on Camaros/Firebirds. Dorman makes replacements, so see their catalog. Butch/56sedandelivery.
