I might be working on another car and had seen pictures or link in a thread here that some one was putting a 472 or 500 caddy in a mid 50's caddy. I think the pics had the body on a rotiserie and the frame had to get notched for the motor. I did a search and could not come up with anything.

    thanks

    Hey Slag,

The guys at Cad500 are working on this same project too. I am going to be putting a new motor in my Caddy soon also... They said they are putting together a how-to on this with tons of info, but it is not ready yet.

    Best Regards,

I don't believe you have to notch the frame IF you use a late ELDO pan on the 500"...I do not know what years the pans are from tho. The Eldo pan has the sump at the rear like a Chevy...and I do know they are pricey new...

Can anyone else shed light on this?

We're about to put a 500 in my 53. According to Ron at RPM in Cali, you don't have to notch the frame. Remote oil filter and move the radiatior up I believe is what he told me...and of course some very simple motor mounts. As soon as we are able to get started I'll post how it goes. Ron seemed pretty confident from experience that it was Very simple.
This probably doesn't help much, but that's all I know as of now.
    Good Luck!

please keep us posted on this. I have a 53 as well and the motor is giving me some issues...needs a rebuild.

I have been mulling over the idea of going big block and rebuilding the 331 for a modified project or something like that.
