351M and 400 have the same valvecovers and thermostat location. They have a big block bell housing pattern though. The 351C has a small block pattern.

On a 351C the intake surface is level with the distributor/thermostat mounting surface. On the others the intake and thermostat surface is higher (taller deck height).

Added some pictures, notice how the 400 is taller around the distributor hole.

  3. Also there is a restrictor in the thermostat housing which gets lost and maybe the problem with over heating. Mine runs cool with a regular rad.

Right on dead giveaway is the valve covers and extended block around timing chain. Therm housing in block. ( if trying to determine between Windsor and Cleveland. ) and that tall bell housing on 351 m 400. Great engine. I had a sweet one many years ago

make sure you are runinng the proper diameter pulley on the water pump...if it's even 1" smaller it will tend to warm up while driving above 50mph

A lot easier to just remember the C intake is dry & the W isn't.
