I've been searching high n low for a solid project. Finally, brought it home today. It's a 54' 2 door hardtop bel air. Runs n drives, kinda cool already but I'm planning on some changes over time. I'm no pro wrench, but have built a few motorcycles, worked on some cars, and work as a machine builder and fabricator. (not the same as auto, but hopefully it will help)Ha! The 54's had some body work done, it still needs lower door patch ( in and out) Where can I find these and any other sites for panels and parts? The cars is close to all there from what I can see. Trim and a few bits are in the trunk. I'm pumped, I want to do a resto mod sort of car.. I guess. No plans on chopping it, just going with a minimal amount of exterior trim if any will be used at all. Cleaning up the body, shaving the door handles, filling trim clip holes, antenna etc... Did I mention the bumpers are new and the glass is all good! Although the 235 runs good, I sprung a major leak at the interstate on the way home. I wasn't pushing it to hard, but I'm sure the 60 year old 235 and power glide didn't want anything to do with the interstate. I was running 60 or 65 mph tops for about 45 minutes then the leak caused some smoke.I pulled over and at idle the car began to pour oil from the rear of the engine. I shut it down immediately, called a flatbed for the rest of the cruise home. After we got it home I check to see if there was any oil left in it. It was still dam near full. Only guess I have would be the breather is clogged and the pressure blew the seal, especially if it was overful. When I checked the oil looking at the car pre purchase, I noticed it was a bit over, but it didn't seem to cause alarm. Enough of this saga. time for work. Here is a photo with a filter to make it look cooler than it actually is...
Congratulations, the car looks nice and shouldn't take too much to make a it the way you want,,keep us up to date. HRP
