Howdy Kiddies, Of the 41 cars registered in Butch's "Open Wheel" ANRA cl***, 25 are racing this year so far. Of them, all three HA/GRs there went rounds last meet, and are currently holding down 11th (Joe), 12th (me), and 13th (Jeana) positions in the standings. Not too shabby for a few little homebrew sixes "rowing their own", eh wot?
Well old6 I think that shows that you can bracket race a HAMBster in the open wheel cl***, your semi final run in August shows that. It's all about cutting a "good light" and running your dial-in. Hell Joe's motor has 2 1/2 times more HP than Jeana's little 6 and she is right their in the standings. If it is your day, you can take home the "Bacon" in open Wheel cl*** with a home built 6.
In my opinion, those round wins take the HA/GR's from a throwback/curiosity to real race cars in the eyes of spectators and other racers. That could stimulate more builds. Way to go kids!
It ain't any easier bracket racing with a stick against slush pumps than it is being green, but we manage at times. Gotta get some of you SDRA types out here with your slush pumped HAMBsters, you should be a lot more compe***ive in Open Wheel than we are. C'mon boys, where are ya?
bobw & old6 -- I think you guys are right, people see these HAMBster rides going rounds and I think the spectators and racers love to see a 454 BBC roadster paired with a 235 slant 6 HA/MGR in the semi final rounds. It has to keep the interest up for future builds. The SDRA boys are trying to get it together, a little hard when two are in AZ running, but I still think (old sparks) 292 roadster and (ThingyM) 300 dragster will be at the ANRA opener next season. I still hope to haul my crate to Eagle Field & ANRA Finals this year. No "old6" you ain't getting two lengths just because your rowing! You've got 5 years practice with your ride and my old slush pump has not make a full p*** yet, maybe things are looking up, I sure hope so cause you guys and gals are having way to much fun.
'K, I'll settle for a length & a half. Yeah, being compe***ive'll definitely help interest in the HAMBsters at Butch's meets. And in general as well, I believe. The bracket cl***es're good for that. ps. That's HA/GmR.
OK old6, I get one test p*** and if my crate makes to the other end we are on for a match race. My mini 194" Chevy (SDRA) dragster to your m***ive 225" MoPar slant monster motored "HA/GmR" modified dragster. I still think I am giving away the barn. I know my back will only be good for 1 or 2 p***es, may need a releaf driver, any takers.
Ok let me see if I am keeping up so far. Old28 is gonna give old6 1 1/2 lengths. Old 28 has 29 less cubic inches, only 2 gears in his "slushpump", Has has less gear in the rear and his car is heavier. Plus Old6 just came off of a great weekend of bracket racing so you know he is sharp on the line. I am thinking old28 needs 4 lengths just to be able to see the back of old6 car at the finish line. I am sure if he starts off seeing the rear it will drive off into the sunset.
Hell, as long as I make it to the other end of Eagle Field under full power I will be a happy camper, that's for sure. Don't matter if I have to watch old6 disappear into the sun set as long as we are both safe and having the time of our lives. Now this is what I had in mind for retirement.
Open note to all ........ That engine was up at Eagle once before (right, Thingy? ), and once some Aussie voodoo was practiced on the jugs it ran quite nicely indeed.
"M***ive"? "Monster"? Put the Thesaurus down and step away from it slowly. Kay wants to know what you're paying relief drivers this year? Seriously though, she'd be up for it. Just needs a bucket, Danny V. contributed a nice suit to her last year.
Old28 has got a sleeper and not letting anyone know it. Thats why he needed a full race torque convertor. He is making so much horsepower he does not need a lot of rear gear. Old6 you have painted a new picture for us to look at on this match race.
That trick torque converter will work well with the super secret big inch, high tech, Chebby 6 that is now in the final design stages.
He keeps telling about this little engine of his. I got to thinking they run little engines in comp eliminator. Them little engine run faster than I can with a big engine.
I hope you are all having a good time with this so called Match Race. I will have the last laugh when (old6) kicks my tail and I have to read that "FLYIN BRICK" all the way to the finish. And 440 try to keep those words more to my level, I'm just an "OLD" surfer dude from the coast. Cl***es were second to the waves. For the first time this year I am starting to get excited about having the hot rod on the track.
DAYUM! "Just an OLD surfer". Old6 better throw in the can and the lid. Those of us who were around back then know about "The Surfers". Should be one hell of a match race!
I am only old enough to have read about the surfers but the history books show them to be innovators and a total nightmare to the other top fuel cars. I want pictures of Tom riding his skate board around at the races. It will be funn if nothing else.
Sorry old6 for side tracking your thread, I will see you in two weeks at Eagle and maybe Kay can have a go at it. Please save me a place next to yours, be there Friday afternoon, only need space for my Suburban & the 16' open trailer.
