Well, I was'nt able to make it, but Recycler called me from the tracK. Sounds like the Ramrods won the finals on a hole shot. The Speed Merchants rail really picked the pace. We're running in the 13.80's now! I'm sorry I couldn't go but it was work -- or else. Somebody post the details pleae.
Well i went out 1st round with a stupid bad light hehe. g***er driver (fred jerked the pinion out of his rearend on his second p***...then beck broke 2d gear on his 2d p***............fred got plaque for best unrestored drag car abd i got best restored drag car ................good time was had by all
Give me a few days and I'll get some pics up. I had a great time myself. Loved watching the underdog flathead HA/GR take out the big bad overhead six, but I'll let the crews fill in all the details. All three HA/GRs were there and were the hit of the race in my opinion. Hated to see the g***er explode the pumpkin. I guess it was good that it wasn't a slingshot dragster. That would have resulted in some testicular agony at best.
Hooley won the streetrod shootout and I was a distant third. Thats 2 years Hooley has won and I have, by luck, won 4 years. Hooley is much faster than me. I tried to beat him by leaving on the first yellow and redlighting, just to get to the end first, but he still beat me. I think he had his window rolled down and was listening the radio while he did it. http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/hooley/hooley-2005.html
I had a blast. I am still learning to drive our car. The HA/GR field is getting tighter. All in the 13s between 13.6 and 13.9. Of course winter is coming on and the pits were abuzz with talk of "over the winter" improvements. Even though I didn't win a round I left feeling very good about our car. We went from a best of a 14.55 to a 13.86 without spending any money. I'll let the Ramrods and Hornets give their perspective on the race. Brad
To start off with...It was COLD AS HELL!! Wind was outta the north at about 300 mph! And a headwind no less for the racers! The Hornets were really on their mark. Consistant 13.6s'. The Ramrods ran consistant 13.7s'. And Mr.Mac(Ted) consistantly hole-shot their ***! Recycler(Speed Merchants) was strugglin' in the mid to high 14s'. On his last p*** of the day he vowed to dip into the 13s'! And he did! Ran a 13.86! Hornets best time was 13.55 in the finals, but they couldn't beat the Ramrods 13.70 with the holeshot. We had an absolute blast! Our carbs weren't setup right(too lean...my fault), gonna have to change my name to 3Carb-Larry. This winter our HA/GR is going on a serious diet. Gonna drill holes everywhere! Lighter tires and wheels too. We got truck tires on the back and the *******s weigh about 40lbs apiece! Need to take a carvin' knife to Mr.Mac too. Soon as I get them carbs figgerd out, and we get some decent tires, we should be runnin' 12.9s' -13.10s'. If'n Brad(Recycler/Speed Merchants) loses them stock heads, and gets some aluminum ones, and gets some more rear gear in that ****er...we're all gonna be in trouble! Next year you'll be able to throw a blanket over the whole field! Close racin' comin'! Yo Baby(Tim) sent me a few pics 'cause my lady took the camera to Hawaii. And Mr.Mac was too busy drivin' and left his at home. Jim Marlett says he'll post some good ones shortly. You guys need to be doin' this!
Larry! What the hell do you mean your going to take a knife to Mr Mac. I still got into my fire suit didnt I ?
Those HA/GR guy's are havin' too much fun.LOL The RamRods are gonna have to give Mr.Mac a nickname maybe "Hole Shot" or sumthin'. The Hornets are gonna have ta name their pilot "Sleepy". A 13.86 was a good rip but you guy's shoulda let me drill those jets and install and 'em (By God). Then Ted could have really hopped and skipped the tires off the line.LOL I don't know what Recycler did to their Hot rod to pick it up so much ,but dammit, man it worked and worked well.Like Larry said when he get's some real heads and this and that then tinkers with it some more it will be a force to be reckoned with. Alas poor Fred, performed the brutal removal of the pinion gear and nose from the 3rd member in his old Chevy, but that damage was slightly mitigated by a plaque for best un-restored drag car. He'll be back. Speaking of breakage I guess my ***ociate Mr.Beck deserves an honorable mention for finally managing to kill his old T-10 after about a bazzilion p***es .I can't seem to keep 'em in my car for more than 10 p***es or so and it's slower than a seven year itch by comparison.Lmao,I guess I'll have to heed his advice and take some clutch out of it. Another freind who was there from Tulsa,Ray Kelly, had a real good outing with his 53 Ford PU.Turned on that big red eye late in the day.(semis or final)not sure which. I think a good time was had pretty much by all even if was a tad chilly. That's really all the news I can convey. Later,T.OUT
We had a good time spectating, its all ways cool to see some front engine action, and there were a few "old cars" there, really thought it was cool to see the g***er driver coupe in person as well as the black magic 55. I got a smokin deal on once used richmond 4:56 ring and pinon set form my 57 at $35, now i have to find a 12 bolt posi to put them in.
