Projects To use or not to use Rislone in the motor oil?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bruce Fischer, Sep 23, 2013.

  1. I was told to drop 2 qts of oil from my 56 buick Station Wagon motor and add 2 bottles of Rislone to help with the sticky rings and valves. Some one else said it would thin out the oil too much and ruin the motor. What do you all think? Thanks Bruce.

  2. If you are going to use it follow the instructions. I doubt that you are supposed to use it byu the quart it is an additive not a lubricant.

Rislone recommends 1 qt to 4 qts of oil if you have a 5 qt system. I wouldn't go beyond that - they are smarter then us

If you'd rather not drain out any oil you might head to a GM dealer and get a bottle of Limited Slip Additive. I think its like only 3 or 4 ounces. It's a detergent additive used to break down the varnish and glaze on posi-trac clutches to keep them from clunking and chattering. But its also been used in motor oil to help free up sticky lifters and rings. Seems to work best if you can take a longer trip for an hour or two to really get it circulated well.

GM part number 1052358 (old) or 88900330 (new).

Read the directions, typically products like that are ment to be added with oil not replace oil.

Bruce, if you didn't have bad luck you'd have none at all. I hope what ever you do regarding an additive resolves your problem. Keep us posted.
